19 April - Acts 27

Today we’re reading Acts 27 together in the Tattoo Church Reading Plan. Here are a few thoughts:
  1. We start out reading how Paul and some other prisoners are being transported to Italy via boat . . . no it’s was not the “Love Boat” but did it end up a lot longer than a “three hour tour.” (If you didn’t get those references then you’re too young or we’re too old.)
  2. At one port they stopped at Paul warned the soldiers and the crew not to sail because (through the power of the Holy Spirit) he foresaw the ship wrecking. However, they ignored Paul’s warning and sailed anyways.
  3. Of course a huge storm comes and after many days of the crew gave up hope of being saved. Paul stands up and encourages them that an angel told him the previous night that none of their lives would be lost, only the ship.
  4. The ship did run aground and was broken to pieces after 15 days in the storm. Yet, all 276 people on board made it safely to shore.
Paul has had quite the interesting journey hasn’t he. Now add to that a ship wreck. It sucks that these guys were in a shipwreck but Paul was able to encourage 275 other people along the way and God protected all of them. It’s an amazing story.

How would you have handled being in Paul’s position? Would you have berated the crew for not heeding your warnings more? Would you have had the faith to continue trusting God in spite of the bleak circumstances? The longer you walk with God in life the more tough situations you go through and he proves his faithfulness to you. It’s because of the cumulation of these times that Paul was able to trust God. Let us strive to be obedient and trusting in each trial we face no matter how small or large they be.
