2 April - Acts 13

Today we’re reading Acts 13 together. Here are a few thoughts:
  1. At the start of the chapter we read about Barnabas and Saul being set apart for a specific work God had in mind for them. So these two men got on a boat and went where they believed the Holy Spirit was telling them to go. Once arriving they started teaching people about Jesus.
  2. Elymas, a Jewish sorcerer, opposed their teachings of Jesus and made trouble for them. However, a certain leader named, Sergius Paulus, wanted to hear from Barnabas and Saul (also called Paul) and so he sent for them. Elymas tried to persuade the leader not to listen to their teaching about Jesus. God used Paul to speak his judgment against Elymas and immediately the evil man went blind. At seeing this the leader believed what they were teaching about Jesus.
  3. Then Paul and his companions continued traveling and telling people about the good news of Jesus. At Pisidian Antioch Paul was invited to speak to the people in the synagogue.
Paul was highly educated and explained to the people in Pisidian Antioch how Jesus was the one they had been looking for. He said; “We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers he has fulfilled for us.” When Paul and Barnabas were leaving the temple they were invited back the next week and verse 44 tells us almost the whole town showed up to hear about Jesus. Can you imagine having a whole city show up to hear about Jesus and how much God loves them?

When we grasp how good the news about Jesus really is we can’t help but invite people to hear it too. Who have you talked with about it? When we find a good place to eat we tell everyone. How much more do people need to know that there is a God who loves them and wants a relationship with them? Who are you going to share God’s love with in a loving way this week?
