25 Jan - James 3

Today we are reading James 3 in the Tattoo Church Reading Plan. Here are some points to take away:
  1. James warns us to control our tongues. Doesn’t a lot of the trouble we find ourselves in come from the things we say? James tells us that the tongue is the toughest thing to tame.
  2. James compares our tongues to the small rudder of a ship that steer it’s direction. We must control our tongues if we are to be able to walk a life worthy of following Jesus.
  3. Wisdom that comes from heaven is pure, peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy, impartial and sincere.
Does the way you talk show others that you follow Jesus? If you don’t believe in God then does the way you talk show others love? This goes beyond an occasional curse word. How about gossip? Lying? Just simple rudeness? James tells us what we choose to talk about and how we talk directs our lives. How about that list that comes after wisdom from heaven? Does your life reflect those words? If not what steps could you take to start living out one or more of them?
