9 May - Roman 12

Today's reading is Romans 12, and let's do something different with it. The goal of the Christian life is love, and this chapter gives a description of love. So let's evaluate how we're doing. For each phrase describing love, give yourself a grade (like A, B, C, D, or F).
  • Love is sincere.
  • Love hates what is evil.
  • Love clings to what is good.
  • Love is devoted to others.
  • Love honors others above self.
  • Love has zeal in serving God.
  • Love is joyful in hope.
  • Love is patient in affliction.
  • Love is faithful in prayer.
  • Love shares with people who are in need.
  • Love practices hospitality.
  • Loves blesses when persecuted.
  • Love rejoices with those who rejoice.
  • Love mourns with those who mourn.
  • Love lives in harmony with others.
  • Love is not proud or conceited.
  • Love does not repay evil for evil.
  • Love tries to do what is right in the eyes of others.
  • Love overcomes evil with good.
Here's the good news: God forgives us when we're not perfect. So don't lose hope if your grades aren't what you'd hope. But use this as a chance to feel challenged to improve your “love life.” The cool thing is this applies to everyone not just people who say they follow Jesus. So if you’re skeptical about this whole God thing then you can still try to improve your positive impact on this world. No matter where we’re at in our spiritual journey we can all agree if we spent more time leading with love then this world would be a better place. But if we’re honest with ourselves it can be difficult to do sometimes. The thing about following Jesus is that He wants to help us to become better at showing love so we can have an even great positive impact in the life of others. Unfortunately many times Christians haven’t done a very good job of being known to show love and for that we apologize and try to do the best we can to live a life of love hoping we can turn that opinion of followers of Jesus back around. Why don't you take a minute to pray and ask God to help you with that?
