31 May - 1 Corinthians 12

Today we’re reading 1 Corinthians 12 together in the Tattoo Church Reading Plan. This is an important chapter to understand so let’s get to it:
  1. In this chapter Paul talks about “spiritual gifts.” This is can be a very confusing topic but it doesn’t need to be. The bottom line is that God gives each person who follows Jesus different talents to use to help the church and other people. Some people think certain gifts are better than others but they’re not. Paul tells us that they’re given by God for the common good of all people.
  2. Paul uses the analogy of the human body to further emphasize how we’re all important parts in the “body of Christ.” Often it’s easier for us to think the people who God gave talents that put them on stage are favored over us. However, Paul says the opposite; we are to give greater honor to those positions that come with less perceived honor. The point is we are all needed and equally important. He goes one step further and says if one part is sick we’re all sick. Meaning if one ministry team is hurting for volunteers it holds us all back.
So where are you serving at your church? Would you like to know how you could help us at Tattoo Church? Are you not serving because you think what you’re good at isn’t worth much? If so you couldn’t be more wrong. Find a way to serve that sounds like something you would like to do and get serving. It doesn’t even have to be in a church. If you’re skeptical of God you can still serve other people too. In fact, we can all agree on this; if we all served each other more this world would be way better. We can’t be a fully healthy body if you’re not a part of it too.
