Today we’re reading Acts 20 in the Tattoo Church Reading Plan. Below are a few thoughts:
- The chapter opens telling us of Paul’s plan to sail for Syria being disrupted by some Jews plotting against him. Instead Paul takes some new companions back through Macedonia again.
- Then we read about Paul giving the longest sermon ever. Well, we’re not sure if that is true or not but it was long enough that a guy went to sleep and fell out of a window and died. Which makes you wonder a few things: How long was Paul speaking? Why was the guy sitting in a third story window? Most importantly, why did his parents name him Eutychus?
- Next we read of Paul and his companions attempts to reenact the Pirates of the Caribbean movie . . . well not really but there was a lot of sailing going on.
- Then Paul met with the leaders of the church in Ephesus to bid them farewell because he knew he would never see them again.
Did you catch what Paul was telling the leaders from the church of Ephesus? He told them he was going to Jerusalem and he was not sure what to expect. He could only assume more of the same he received in every city which was prison and hardships. Then he said the following: “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.” Wow, that’s a serious statement there!
Do you think you could be as bold and brave as Paul? Can you say in any way that you consider you life worth nothing in order to finish the task that God has given you? Do you think God has given you a task? The Bible tells us that God has a purpose for each of our lives and wants to help us make the most of them. Ask God to show you what he wants you to do with your life?
