Today’s reading for the Tattoo Church Reading Plan is Genesis chapter 11; verses 10-32. Let’s jump right in.
- In this chapter we read the lineage of Shem (one of Noah’s sons) that ends with a man named Abram.
- The lineage lists in the Bible are really boring to read until you start to notice that it’s all to show us where the people in the Bible connect to each other. Then it can get interesting.
- In this section of the chapter we’re introduced to Abram who is a major figure in the history of the world and we will learn more about him in the weeks to come.
- We’re also told about his wife Sarai and how she was unable to have children. Which you may be thinking; “Sad, but so what?” Well, Abram and Sarai are the ancestors of the lineage of Jesus. Now you should be saying; “Huh? I thought she was unable to have children?!?” Yep and that’s why it’s important. We’ll learn more about that in the chapters to come.
This section of the chapter starts off kind of boring, and really it’s all rather dull. But in the end we read an interesting point that will make more sense later. The thing to take away from this is that life’s full of ups and downs; and God wants to be there with you through it all. You may think that’s a reach for an application for this reading but in the chapters to come you will totally understand. Abram and Sarai go through a lot of ups and downs but God is with them through it all. And God wants to be with you too.
