Today we are reading Mark 12. Check this out:
- We read this word “commandment” and a debate about which one of them is the greatest. A commandment was a rule or boundary given by God to help people live lives that are healthy. Most of them helped to maintain a good relationship with God and with other people. God did not give these boundaries to limit us but rather to guide us and keep us from hurting ourselves and others.
- In Mark 12 Jesus reduces all the commands given by God into the two greatest commandments. “Love God and Love People.”
The religious leaders were always trying to get Jesus with a tough question and he always ended up making them look rather stupid. You would think they would have caught on faster but they didn’t. I’m glad they asked this question though because honestly I don’t know that I could remember every rule but two, two I can manage. Jesus said to live a life that pleases God you “Love God and Love People.” How about you, would you say that your life is characterized by loving God and loving people? How so? Even if you don’t follow God, does you’re life show you love other people? That’s something we can all agree will make the world better. What is one practical step you will take to ensure you start living a life that models “Love God and Love People?”
